Students finished reading Lord of the Flies this week! Here's a recap of our week.
I'd like to first thank Aleesha Marra for creating our chapters 10-12 vocabulary word wall this week. She creatively drew and designed each one as a memory reference for the class. Thanks, Aleesha!
Students thoughtfully annotated excerpts from chapter 11, and Mrs. Cooper and I challenged students to create a title for each of the five excerpts - the first place winners earned recognition and points toward the tribal challenge. Check out the winners below:
Excerpt #34 - Isabelle Lovenduski: "Savages Steal the Signal"
Excerpt #35 - Kadyn Miller, "The Blind Knight"
Excerpt #36 - Hugo Zabielowicz, "The Defiance of Savagery"
Excerpt #37 - Joey Truax, "Rock Their World"
Excerpt #38 - Hugo Zabielowicz, "The Luminous Light of Civilization is Extinguished"
Since we had a half day on Wednesday, two of my classes met and competed in a Vocabulary Day Challenge. I divided students into two or three teams, and we competed in three games: Word Search, Whiteboards, and Charades. Students showed their knowledge of the 34 vocabulary words in various ways, and I'm proud of their ability to spell and apply these words in creative ways. But, I think they enjoyed the charades the most, and I have to admit, so did I!
