Highlights of the past couple of weeks in English 8:
Students in 3C pieced together a sentence using their understanding of parts of speech and how words 'fit' together. I enjoyed listening to their discussion of why 'this word should fit here because...'
This was the sentence (and yes, of course it's from Harry Potter!). "Towering stone pillars rose to support a ceiling lost in darkness, casting long black shadows through the odd, greenish gloom that filled the place." -The Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
Students learned new vocabulary words in preparation for the short story they started reading today titled "Charles" by Shirley Jackson. But before they took notes, they tried to identify the meaning of the word by rotating to different stations with the word in a sentence, using context clues to determine what they 'think it means' first.
16 new vocabulary words 8 parts of speech 3 different points of view One rewarding month in English 8!
